30 days of writing tips… tip no 12… Rest…

Writing is tiring. People won’t believe you when you tell them that writing is actually quite hard work. You have to build a scene to write in your mind and place it all on paper, you have to make conversations between characters and make those conversations believable. You also have to make sure that you use different vocabulary so you don’t end up repeating the same words too much which can make the scene boring or samey. Not only all of that but you are sitting at a desk or where ever it is you like to write for hours, it mentally exhausts you!!! Then once the book is complete you have the mammoth task of self promotion and marketing!!! So be prepared to rest… Resting is not in itself not working, resting will mean your mind and body can recouperate so you can then come up with ideas easier. By resting I mean take a day or two away from writing, go catch a film at the cinema it might inspire you more, meet up and have a gossip with friends and family or if you have a poor neglected husband, wife, boyfriend or girlfriend, why not treat them to a nice meal out or movie night on the sofa with popcorn and a tub of Ben and Jerry’s. If you like me need pampering why not go and get your hair cut, have your nails done, go shopping or get a massage. 🙂 Believe me… Taking a well earned break will perk you up and make you feel more human and not a caged up writing machine… You can thank me later.
