Please give another warm welcome to Adrienne Lecter our next author in the Zombie-a-thon Halloween interviews…
Question 1 – So hello and welcome to the Zombie-a-thon, please start by telling us a little bit about yourself and what you do?
Hi! Thank you so much for having me! I’m Adrienne, I’m 34, from Vienna, Austria, and I write full-time, in the best genre ever—zombie apocalypse horror!
Question 2 – I guess the BIG question is… Why do you personally write about Zombies and the genre of the Apocalypse? What gives you your inspiration and love for the gory genre?
I love the survival aspect, and to explore what (normally decent) human beings are capable of if thrown into really bad situations. My series used to be a biotech thriller, but after finishing the first book, I realized it would be so much more fun if they didn’t save the day and to watch the world around the characters disappear in chaos. It’s probably a character flaw.
Question 3 – What books have you currently written and tell us a little about them?
What people might know me for is the Green Fields series. Right now, 7 books and a novella are out, and I plan to release book #8 later this year, with a few more to come. If you love a kick-ass female heroine who starts out as a scientist rather than a combat vet, my books should be right down your alley. But beware, I like things realistic, gory, and when people recommend them, they usually do so with a warning because of that.
Question 4. Did you choose to self-publish or go traditional and why?
Self-publish all the way! Long ago, I tried pitching a different story to an agent, and in hindsight, I’m happy that nobody wanted it. I love having complete creative control and the freedom Indie publishing comes with. Sure, it was a learning curve to get here, and I dislike how much of my time is spent with things unrelated to writing because I have to do it all myself (and hire the professionals to do the work I can’t) but it’s been the single most rewarding experience of my life. A publisher would have to dish out quite the advance for me to consider giving up a part of that.
Question 5 – Do you like to listen to music when you write?
Yes, but not necessarily anything I like to admit (or would listen to recreationally)—I use it as white noise to focus my thoughts.
Question 6 – What is your most favourite Zombie film of all time and why?
28 days later. I love the premise and execution, and it scared the hell out of me.
Question 7 – What is your most favourite Zombie novel of all time and why?
Bobby Adair’s Slow Burn series is amazing, but I think I love Dusty’s Diary even more. There’s a lot of humor in everything he writes, also due to the unlikely nature of his heroes. Perfection!
Question 8 – How long do you think you would survive if a Zombie outbreak occurred?
Of course I’d like to say years, but realistically? Less than a day. Considering what I write, I’m okay with that. Not sure I’d want to live in a world like that.
Question 9 – What would your weapon of choice be in a Zombie Apocalypse?
If they are fast and stealth doesn’t matter, an assault rifle. Otherwise, a sledge hammer.
Question 10 – If you were turned into a Zombie what author would you bite to be Zombie buddies with?
Charles Ingersoll, my writing buddy! We already make a great team, as zombies we’d be unstoppable!
Question 11 – Do you watch ‘The Walking Dead’? If yes who is your favourite character?
Yes. Carol. Because she’s awesome. Also, because she has one of the best character development arcs I’ve seen on TV, or even read in most novels. Couldn’t stand her at first but that changed very soon.
Question 12 – And finally any advice for any budding Zombie wannabe authors out there?
Pick your niche and stick with it. Write what you want to write, even if it’s a bit off the well-trodden paths. Your unique view of the apocalypse is what works best, not necessarily what everyone else has already done. Readers will catch on to that passion that comes with writing from the heart. And don’t pull any punches. We’re lucky to be writing in a genre that has virtually zero limitations, so trust that your readers are a bloodthirsty mob!
